I was asked to illustrate a portrait of crime novel writer Walter Mosley for the cover of The Washington Post Sunday Style section (January 22, 2012 edition.) His latest novel was set in modern day New York City, so an alley way or NYC landscape was the obvious choice to be a backdrop for the portrait.I thought blue would be the perfect color palette, so didn’t give any other color options. We almost went with one of the roughs where Mosley was holding a revolver himself but at the last second decided against it. I did get to illustrate the revolver to be put in the text as an accent image.
Thanks to Allie for the assignment!
